From: jklewis@ren.us.itd.umich.edu (John K. Lewis) newsgroups: rec.games.corewar Subject: THE BATTLE ROYAL Date: 1996/04/30 THE BATTLE ROYAL! Ten programs enter, one leaves a champion. (tm) ---------------------------------------------- First off I would like to welcome our viewer to The Battle Royal, the first and only limited process, multi-warrior tournament of it's kind in the world. Viewer may wonder what makes The Battle Royal different from other events of this type. The answer is simple, it has less. Less processes, less hype, less prize money (but more about that later.) Behind me is the "Core" where ten programs will do battle. This reinforced steel ram chip will keep those binary warriors from escaping, until only one stands. And take a look at these silicon based semi-conductors, used as process governors. Ordinarily these programs are capable of handling up to 8000 process... simultaneously. But tonight these monsters are going to have to fight it out under the tight controls of only 8 processes each. Every contestants was programmed by experts in the deadly art of Redcode. Each one was tuned specifically for this event. No strategies are barred, although some have been specifically hindered. The rules of the core have been designed to create the maximum amount of carnage, with a minimum of ties. Now, about that prize money. The winning program will receive $50 worth [one hour] of computer graphic art created by world famous John K. Lewis. John has been featured on such web pages as; www.us.itd.umich.edu/~jklewis/pics/snow.gif www.us.itd.umich.edu/~ajmarsh/techrep.html www.stormking.com/~koth Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. As of this writing two slots were already filled. Send all entries to jkle...@umich.edu with the subject line "THE BATTLE ROYAL". Prizes void where prohibited. jklewis not responsible for damage occurring to programs as a result of The Royal Battle. Results will be posted to r.g.c. as soon as they are available. John K.
